North Cinque Island, also called Gue-a-lue, is an Andaman island with no permanent population, 37 km south of Port Blair in South Andaman district. With South Cinque, 1.5 km away, it makes up the Cinque Islands of the Rutland Archipelago, and the pair are sometimes treated as a single island. Manners Strait separates it from Rutland Island, 5.5 km to the north-west.
The island is formed of three rocky peninsulas joined by sand bars. The northern one is the biggest, with two hills of roughly 154 m and 145 m; a lighthouse set up in 1972 stands on the higher, about 2 km from the landing point. The 2004 tsunami broke the sand bar between the north and south peninsulas, which has since formed again. The Cinque Islands are a declared sanctuary for coral reefs, seaweeds, colourful fish, shells, starfish, sea anemones, turtles, water snakes and saltwater crocodiles, and North Cinque is a popular diving destination, known for its coral and beaches.
