The story

Nehru Park lies beside the Damodar River at Burnpur, a neighbourhood of Asansol in West Bengal. It was laid out to a plan by F. W. A. Lahmeyer, then in charge of the IISCO Steel Plant as its general manager, and although its official name was Riverside Park, people called it Lahmeyer Park.

In 1989, the centenary of the birth of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, the park was renamed in his honour. A cast-iron statue of Nehru, made at the Kulti Works, then part of IISCO, was set up in the park.
