The story

Joychandi Pahar is a hill in Purulia district, West Bengal, lying 2 km from Raghunathpur, the subdivision's main town, and 4 km from Adra. Joychandi Pahar railway station on the Adra–Asansol line is 1.5 km away, and Adra Junction about 4 km. The hill is a popular tourist attraction and a major centre for rock climbing, and much of Satyajit Ray's Bengali film Hirak Rajar Deshe was shot in this hilly area.

Plants growing on the hill include neem, palash, Acacia concinna, Helicteres isora, Alangium salviifolium and Holoptelea integrifolia, and 74 species of butterfly have been recorded around it. Each year after Christmas the Joychandi Pahar Pariyatan Utsav is held at the foothills, usually running until 1 or 2 January and giving local artists a stage for their work.
