The story

Nag Pahad, or Snake Mountain, also written Naga Pahar, is a mountain in the Aravalli range between Ajmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan, forming a natural divide between the two. It has spiritual significance and is mentioned in Hindu texts.

Local belief holds that the sage Agastya Rishi lived here. The mountain also features in the story of Vatu, son of Lord Brahma, who sheltered here after being disciplined by Chyavan Rishi, and in accounts of the Naag Kund, a sacred water source thought to have existed on its slopes. Devotees and tourists come on pilgrimage, and on the slopes stands the Nag Pahad Wale Balaji Temple, dedicated to Lord Balaji, with wide views over the surrounding country.
