The story

The Mubarak Mosque, the Blessed Mosque, stands in the centre of Qadian in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, behind the Aqsa Mosque, the town's first. It is held to be the earliest mosque raised after the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community came into being. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of the movement, laid its foundations in 1882 and opened it in 1883.

In Ahmadi belief the mosque has special significance, as building it is held to have been the first task given to Ghulam Ahmad by God, and in one of his sermons he linked it to a verse about the Prophet's night journey. It was enlarged in 1907, shortly before his death, and again in 1944 under his son Mirza Basheer-ud-Din Mahmood Ahmad. An Arabic inscription over the entrance calls the mosque a source of blessing, blessed itself, and a place where every blessed deed will be done.
