The story

Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple lies about 6 km from Jaipur Junction railway station, beneath the Moti Dungri palace, from which it takes its name: moti means pearl and dungri means hill. Seth Jai Ram Paliwal built it in 1761. Legend says a king of Mewar was travelling home with a large image of Ganesha on a bullock cart and vowed to build a temple wherever the cart first stopped, which turned out to be the foot of this hill.

Three domes rise over the sanctum, where the seated, vermilion-covered Ganesha has a trunk curving to the left. Carving and latticework cover the walls, and a figure of the mouse, the god's mount, is also present. Families in Jaipur traditionally send the first invitation for any celebration to Ganesha here, and newly married couples come for his blessing. Every Wednesday a fair is held around the temple, and festival days draw thousands.
