The story

The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum occupies the former summer palace of the founder of the Sikh empire, inside the Ram Bagh garden a short distance from the Golden Temple. The palace was turned into a museum in 1977, and its collection covers Sikh history of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The building itself, with arches, domes and painted ceilings and walls, is part of the display. Exhibits include paintings of the Maharaja's court and camps, among them a well-known view of Lahore, along with coins and manuscripts from his reign and a gallery of arms and armour from the period. The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama, which tells his life story through large painted scenes, stands next door.
