Madhe Ghat lies roughly 62 km south-west of Pune, on the border with Raigad district, in thick forest behind Torna Fort and within reach of Rajgad, Raigad Fort and the Bhatghar Dam backwaters. At about 850 metres above sea level it has a waterfall, known as Laxmi Waterfall, and a wide view that takes in Lingana, Raigad Fort, Varandha Ghat and Shivthar Ghal.
The pass is remembered for the warrior Tanaji Malusare: after he died in the battle of Sinhagad, his funeral procession set out from Madhe Ghat for his home village of Umrathe near Poladpur. A walking path links the ghat with Birwadi, and at the foot of the ghat stands a small Shiva temple with a water tank called Dev Take. On the hill to the right another waterfall can be seen, along with Boratyachi Nal, an old route used by Shivaji's army to reach the Konkan. The area has become popular with trekkers.
