The story

Machiya Safari Park is a biological park about 8.5 km from the centre of Jodhpur. It covers 41 hectares inside the larger Machiya Forest Block of some 604 hectares, and was planned in 1982–83 as an offshoot of the city's old zoo, giving local desert animals more room than an enclosure.

Deer, nilgai (blue bull), rabbits, desert foxes, mongooses, monkeys and monitor lizards can be seen along its paths, and visitors can also tour the grounds on elephant back. A bird-watching point overlooks the park, and an old fort on a high point within the grounds is a favoured place to watch the sun go down over the desert.
