01 — The story

The story

Lodh Falls is the tallest waterfall in Jharkhand and is reckoned the 21st highest in India. It lies in the forested uplands of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in Latehar district, where the water descends a rocky cliff in a series of steps, and its roar can be heard well before the falls come into sight.

Reaching it involves a walk through woodland of tall trees, where birdsong and the movement of small animals accompany the trail and birdwatchers find plenty to look for. Larger mammals such as leopards and elephants roam the surrounding forest. Several tribal communities, each with its own customs, live in the villages around the falls.
