The story

Kutram Poruttha Naathar Temple is a Shiva temple at Thalaignayiru, also called Thalainayar, in Mayiladuthurai district. Its old names are Karuppariyalur and Karmanaasapuram. Shiva is worshipped as Kutram Poruttha Naathar, or Aparaathakshameswarar, and the goddess as Kolvalai Naayaki.

It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, with hymns by both Tirugnanasambandar and Sundarar. A distinctive feature is a separate shrine known as the madakkovil, or hilltop temple, set aside for Bhairava, who is worshipped here as Sattanathar.
