Kurusady St. Antony's Church, near Nagercoil, is believed to be around 400 years old. According to its story, a Hindu Nadar came upon a stone marked with an embossed cross, then had dreams in which a form of light told him to build a church.
Worship began simply at the spot, which took the name Curusadi from 'curusu', the Tamil word for cross. Much later a new church was raised; its construction took 21 years and it was completed in 1911.
