The story

Koka Wildlife Sanctuary covers 92.34 sq km of Bhandara District, Maharashtra, 20 km east of Bhandara town, and forms part of the Nawegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve. The whole area became reserved forest in 1879, so no private rights exist and no village lies inside. It was declared a sanctuary in 2013.

The forest has trees 100 years old, and a lake inside receives migratory birds from Siberia in winter. Tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gaur, chital, sambar and wild dogs are present in good numbers. The sanctuary is open from sunrise to sunset. Between 5:00 am and 8:00 pm, buses leave Bhandara Bus Stand every 30 minutes, the town has hotels and resorts, and Nagpur is the closest rail and air link.
