The story

Karat Temple is a Shiva temple at Kommayad, close to Mananthavady in Kerala's Wayanad district. Thought to date back roughly a thousand years, it is counted among the oldest temples in the district.

Tipu Sultan destroyed the temple in the 18th century. It was later rebuilt through an effort led by Krishnan Nambeesan, with help from people of every religion. A Shiva puja is held on the first day of each Malayalam month, and the anniversary of the consecration is celebrated every year on 10 and 11 May.
