Thrissilery Shiva Temple is an old Shiva shrine in the Thrissilery area of Wayanad, about 19 km from Thirunelly, and a well-attended pilgrim centre in the district. Chera kings are believed to have built it around a thousand years ago.
Its importance is bound up with the Thirunelly Vishnu Temple: ancestral rites performed there are believed to remain incomplete until the pilgrim has also visited Thrissilery. Parvati, Ganesha, Balakrishnan and Dharma Sastha are worshipped alongside Shiva, and a separate Jala Durga shrine is said to have been consecrated by Parashurama. The annual festival falls in the Malayalam month of Meenam, and the Puthari festival is held in Thulam.
