01 — The story

The story

Kanchi Kudil is a former residence in Kanchipuram that now serves as a museum of local cultural history. Its rooms, inner courtyards and front porch are well kept, and they hold carved wooden swings, paintings and photographs showing how people in the region lived.

Other displays include traditional South Indian jewellery, rocking chairs and household utensils, while a prayer room holds a collection of religious objects. The house also hosts craft fairs, exhibitions by artisans and cultural events, where visitors can watch local craftspeople at work and talk with them about what they make.
