The story

Also known as the Ramanuja Swamy Temple, this Vishnu temple in Sriperumbudur, on the edge of the Kanchipuram area, worships the god as Adi Kesava. The town is held to be the birthplace of the saint Ramanuja, which gives the temple great importance in the Vaishnava tradition, and it keeps old images of him.

Facing the Ramanuja shrine is a golden mandapam built by the Maharaja of Mysore. Four kalasas on its roof stand for the four Vedas, and it carries figures of Namperumal, Sridevi, Bhudevi, Garuda and the door guardians. Festivals include Vaikunda Ekadasi, Masi Pooram and Panguni Uthiram.
