Kadambavaneswarar Temple at Kulittalai, in Karur district, is a Shiva temple on the banks of the Kaveri. Shiva is worshipped as Kadambavaneswarar and his consort as Mutrila Mulaiammai.
Tradition says Shiva revealed himself to the sage Kanva in a forest of kadamba trees here, so the place came to be called Kadambanthurai. The temple is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the shrines praised in Tamil Saivite hymns, and Appar sang in its honour.
