The story

Thirupparaithurai is a village in Srirangam taluk on the south bank of the Cauvery, about 16 km from Trichy, with the Trichy–Coimbatore highway and the Trichy–Palakkad railway passing through it; the nearest station is Elamanur. It is known for its old Shiva temple, the Paraithurainathar Temple, at the heart of the village. The name recalls the parai trees that once grew here in large numbers.

The temple is a Paadal Petra Sthalam, its deity praised by the Nayanars and by Arunagirinathar. Beside it stands a Rajagopalan Swami temple about 150 years old. The village is also home to Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, founded by Swami Chidbhavananda, and Sri Ramakrishna Kudil, both offering academic and spiritual education.
