The story

Kadakkad Sree Bhadrakali Temple is a Hindu temple at Pandalam in Kerala, standing north of Kadakkad beside the MC Road to Pathanamthitta. Bhadrakali is the main deity, with shrines also to Brahmarakshas, Yakshi and the Nagas. The complex includes an anakkottil, a platform for elephants during the Seva rite, as well as a feast hall and changing rooms for weddings and a stage for cultural events.

The annual Pongala draws hundreds of women devotees. They cook rice and jaggery in earthen pots outside the shrine over fires of coconut fronds, lit from a holy flame brought out of the temple, and offer it to the goddess along with sweets such as mandaputtu, appam and therali made from rice flour and jaggery. During the festival the temple is decorated with natural materials.
