D. Slimmon founded the Jorhat Gymkhana Club in 1876, making it one of the oldest clubs in India. Its main building, completed in 1917, follows British colonial design, with tall ceilings, wide verandas and arched openings.
Facilities include tennis and badminton courts, a swimming pool, a gym, sauna and steam rooms, and a lounge with snooker and billiards tables. The cricket ground, known as Jorhat Gymkhana Ground, holds 8,000 spectators and has a turf wicket; it has staged CK Nayudu Trophy matches and the Senior Women's National Cricket Championship. The club also hosts concerts, dance shows and art exhibitions, along with an annual Winter Festival.
