01 — The story

The story

Jobra Barrage crosses the Mahanadi River at Cuttack and carries a road bridge about two kilometres long that links the city with Jagatpur. The structure regulates the river and is a key part of the defences that keep Cuttack safe from the seasonal floods of the Mahanadi.

The bridge can be crossed on foot as well as by road, and it gives wide views over the river and the sky above it. When floodwater is released, the rush of water can be watched from the bridge, and the spot is a popular one for photographs of the Mahanadi.
