01 — The story

The story

The Heritage Transport Museum in Gurugram tells the story of travel and transport in India. Housed in a large compound, its themed galleries move from bullock carts, palanquins and horse-drawn carriages through to vintage motorcycles, classic cars and the Ambassador, the car that opened a new chapter in Indian motoring.

A large railway section holds locomotives, coaches and signalling equipment from the colonial era, and visitors can board a replica coach to experience the sights and sounds of rail travel in earlier times. Interactive displays, audio-visual material and presentations explain the engineering, design and cultural side of each form of transport.
