The Hanuman Dandi Temple stands on Bet Dwarka, an island off the Gujarat coast, roughly 5 km from the Dwarkadhish Temple there. It is dedicated to Hanuman and his son Makardhwaj, and its idols of the two together are an unusual sight, since Hanuman is traditionally held to be celibate.
According to mythology, Makardhwaj was born from drops of Hanuman's sweat swallowed by a fish, and father and son met during the Ramayana war; the temple marks that meeting. The building is in a Gujarati style but kept plain, putting the focus on the idols rather than ornament. Pilgrims come to honour Hanuman and the bond between father and son that the shrine represents.
