The story

Guttikonda Bilam, also spelt Guthikonda Bilam, is a cave and hill in Piduguralla mandal of Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh. It lies around 3 km south of Guttikonda village, itself 15 km from Piduguralla, and is the best known of several caves in the area grouped as the Guthikonda Caves; bilam means cave.

Local people often call it Dakshina Kasi, and sages are believed to have meditated here. A copper sword found at the site points to occupation in the Chalcolithic period. A simple stone arch marks the entrance, and shallow water lies inside. The cave also holds memorials to activists of the People's War, among them a portrait of Charu Mazumdar. In 2008 the biospeleologist Dr Shabuddin Shaik of Acharya Nagarjuna University disturbed a clear pool here and found it full of a previously unknown micro-crustacean, later named Andhracoides shabuddin after him.
