Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve spreads across the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur and Balrampur districts of Chhattisgarh. Announced in 2024 as India's 56th tiger reserve, it covers 2,829.38 sq km, making it the third largest in the country. The land lies on the Chhota Nagpur Plateau and runs into the Baghelkhand plateau, with dense woodland of sal, saja, dhavda and kusum and many streams and rivers. The Zoological Survey of India has recorded 753 species here, including 230 birds and 55 mammals. Animals include chital, elephant, nilgai, chinkara, Indian bison, leopard, sloth bear, wolf, otter, hyena and vultures, and the reserve held five to six tigers as of 2024.
