Gangrel Dam, officially named Pandit Ravishankar Sagar, crosses the Mahanadi River in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. It lies about 17 km from Dhamtari and around 90 km from Raipur, and is described as the longest and largest dam in the state. Devraj was chief engineer of the project.
The reservoir provides irrigation through the year, letting local farmers take two harvests annually, and it is a key source of water for the Bhilai Steel Plant. The dam also produces 10 MW of hydroelectric power. Onakona, on the banks of the reservoir, is a popular spot with visitors.
