The story

Gorewada Lake lies in north-western Nagpur, held back by a dam wall 2,350 feet long. The Waterworks Department developed it in 1912 as the main source of drinking water for Nagpur, then home to about 101,000 people, and it is still the city's chief supply.

Thick forest borders the lake and gives a home to birds and other wildlife; leopards, deer and peafowl can be spotted nearby. The Maharashtra government is developing a 1,914-hectare safari around it, the Gorewada BioPark. The road past the lake is known as the Gorewada Ring Road, and neighbourhoods close by include Borgaon, Gittikhadan, Jafar Nagar and Zingabai Takli.
