The story

Gandhari is a valley in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, branching off the Paddar Valley and reaching to the borders of Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. It is made up of six villages: Bhatwas, Chagg and Muthal are Hindu, while Khajroni, Aliyah and Tun are Buddhist. Its panchayat takes its name from Tun, the last village.

Chagg has a well-known Chandi Mata temple, where the goddess's festivals are celebrated jointly and with enthusiasm, and Bhatwas has a temple to Naag Devta. Aliyah is known for its Buddhist monastery, locally called the gompa. The valley also has rich natural vegetation and wildlife alongside its mix of cultures.
