The story

Durgiana Temple, also known as Sitla Mandir, is one of the main Hindu temples of Amritsar. The temple traces its beginnings to the 16th century, but the present building dates from 1921, when it was reconstructed under the guidance of Guru Harsai Mal Kapoor, who belonged to the family line of Prithi Chand and Guru Ram Das.

The design closely follows the Golden Temple: the shrine rises from the middle of a sarovar measuring about 160 by 130 metres, is crowned with gilded domes, and is reached by a causeway. At the entrance is the Darshni Deori with silver doors 12 feet square. The sanctum holds standing images of Lakshmi-Narayan, flanked by Ram Darbar and by Radha-Krishna with Giriraj Maharaj. Festivals bring the biggest crowds, among them Diwali, Navratri, Holi, Dussehra, Rama Navami and Janmashtami.
