The story

This Durga temple is in Baideshwar village, close to Kalapathara chowk and on the road to Banki, in Cuttack district, Odisha. A survey has dated it to the 8th century, during Bhaumakara rule, placing it in the early Kalingan order. It remains a living temple.

Its Khakhara vimana is a form also seen in Vaital Deula and in Varahi Deula at Chaurasi. The main image is an eight-armed Mahishamardini Durga, and images of Parvati, Aja-ekapada Bhairava and Ganesh are found as well. The temple is built of ochre-coloured sandstone, with laterite used for the compound wall.
