The story

Durga Tekdi, or Durgadevi Park, is a hill in Nigdi, Pune, named after the Durga temple on it and connected with the Pimpri Chinchwad corporation. More than 160,000 trees have been planted across 75 hectares, among them rain tree, neem, ficus and sisoo, and a more recent planting added 59,805 trees on 92 hectares.

Nigdi residents visit the park, where a lawn of over 3 acres is kept for recreation and there is also a waterfall and floating fountain. The city skyline can be seen from here, and during Durga Puja the park stays open until 10 pm. The monsoon and winter are given as the best periods for a visit. Next door is Indira Gandhi Udyan, or Appu Ghar, an amusement park modelled on Appu Ghar in Delhi, with rides, games, ethnic huts and family swings.
