Doul Govinda Temple stands at the foot of Chandra Bharati hill at Rajaduar in North Guwahati, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. It is dedicated mainly to Krishna and shares its grounds with a namghar. The image is said to have been brought from Sandhyasar near Nalbari by Ganga Ram Barooah; the first temple went up more than 150 years ago and was renovated in 1966.
The easiest way to reach it is by ferry from Fancy Bazaar ghat to Rajaduar, followed by a five-minute walk, and from November to April visitors can also enjoy the river crossing and the white sands of the riverbank. The doors open early in the morning and the deity is bathed before worship begins; kirtan accompanies the evening arati, and prasad is served in an open hall. The temple is best known for its five-day Holi celebrations in February–March, when about five thousand pilgrims gather and special ferries run from Guwahati.
