Divyagnanesvarar Temple is a Shiva temple at Koviladi, on the road linking Kandiyur, Thirukattupalli, Kallanai and Trichy, about 9 km from Thirukattupalli once across the Kaveri bridge. The lingam is worshipped as Divyagnanesvarar and the goddess as Akilandesvari, and Appar named the shrine in his hymns, making it a Vaippu Sthalam.
Inscriptions here refer to the god as Tirusadaimudiyudaya Mahadevar, and in Appar's day the place was called Sadaimudi. It was once part of a town known as Tirupper, which also has a Vishnu temple, Appakkudathaan, praised by the Alvars; the presence of both temples is said to explain the name. The area was the scene of an early war, and it was here that the Chola king Kochengat Cholan took the Chera king Kanaikkal Irumporai prisoner.
