The story

Athmanatheswarar Temple is a Hindu temple to Shiva at Thiruvalampolil in Thanjavur district. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams: the Nayanar saint Thirunavukkarasar, or Appar, praised it in the Thevaram. Another Paadal Petra Sthalam, the Pushpavana Nathar Temple, stands in the same village.

The main shrine is to Shiva as Athmanatheswarar. Along the corridors are images of Nataraja, Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Chandikeswarar, Kasi Viswanatha, a linga, Murugan with Valli and Devayani, and the Navagrahas. People come here especially to pray for the removal of obstacles to marriage or for the gift of children.
