The story

The District Science Centre in Tirunelveli opened on 19 February 1987 and is run by the National Council of Science Museums under the Union Ministry of Culture. It lies in the heart of the city, close to the Thamirabarani river and the District Collector's office campus at Kokkirakulam.

Five galleries are open: Fun Science, Famous Science, two on electronics, and Mirror Magic, which is the most popular. A digital planetarium introduces visitors to the night sky, and a small 3D theatre screens short films. There is also a TV studio and a prehistoric park outdoors. Since 1988 the centre has sent a mobile science exhibition bus around Tamil Nadu, taking displays to villages.
