Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar, close to Jorhat, is a Vaishnavite prayer hall on 13 bighas of land, founded by Madhavdev, the disciple of Srimanta Sankardev. Its name joins the Assamese words for fern (dhekia) and eat (khowa). Legend says Madhavdev stayed with a poor elderly couple who had little to offer; the wife sold her hair for rice and the husband picked ferns, which Madhavdev cooked himself. He lit a lamp in their hut and asked them never to let it go out. That lamp still burns in the namghar, built where the hut once stood.
The main hall holds the Monikut, a sacred throne where scriptures rest on a thapona cloth. The collection includes manuscripts handwritten by the gurus, idols, masks made for Bhaona plays, Satriya dance costumes and painted murals.
