The story

Dhak Bahiri, a cave in the Sahyadri hill range, lies near Jambhivli, close to Malavali in Pune district. Pilgrims and sages used it on their way to worship the god Bahiri.

A trail from Jambhivli reaches the nearest col in about an hour, beyond which the ground climbs towards the Dhak and Kalakrai peaks. To get into the cave, walkers go up the col, follow the scarp and finish with a vertical climb of about 30 ft. Inside, water seeping from the rock collects in a cistern, and there is space for 15 to 20 people to spend the night. Villagers keep utensils and cookware there for campers to use.
