Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple sits on a small rise that projects into the Arabian Sea at the western edge of Dwarka. It is dedicated to Shiva as Chandra-Mouliswar, and its Shivalinga is held to be self-manifested, said to have appeared in the sea more than 5,000 years ago. Tradition credits Adi Shankaracharya with building the shrine where the Gomti, the Ganga and the sea meet.
Around June or July each year the sea rises high enough to cover the temple completely before falling back, an event devotees see as the ocean bathing the linga. A path with waves on both sides leads to the shrine, with a lighthouse to the left, and the raised site looks out over the Dwarka coast. Low tide around sunset is the usual time to go.
