Ayyanakere is a lake near Sakharayapatna village, 18 km from Chikmagalur in Karnataka. It is believed to have been built first by Rukmangada Raya, ruler of Sakharayapatna, and was renovated by the Hoysala kings in 1156.
The lake remains a major source of water for farming, feeding 1,560 hectares of fields in villages up to 15 km away through ten canals. It is known for its scenery, with Shakunagiri hill rising behind the water, though a lack of facilities keeps visitor numbers down.
