Avanavanchery Sri Indilayappan Temple is in Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram district, about 3 km south-east of the town centre, and is described as one of the oldest temples in Kerala. It is dedicated to Lord Indilayappan, to whom devotees pray for good health, courage and an improved life.
Shiva, as Umamaheswara, is the primary deity. Smaller shrines are given to Unni Ganapathy, the infant form of Ganesha, to Dharmashastha (Ayyappan) and to the serpent deities, and Mallan Thamburan has a sanctuary of his own. Autorickshaws run to the temple from the KSRTC bus stand in Attingal, and Varkala Sivagiri, about 16 km away, is the closest major station.
