The Anthropological Museum in Jagdalpur was set up in 1972 to record and display the ways of life of the tribal communities of the Bastar region. It is one of the main places in the area to learn about the customs and crafts of these groups.
The collection covers jewellery, woven textiles, hunting implements and musical instruments, chosen to show skills handed down over generations. Its best-known feature is a series of full-size dioramas that rebuild village scenes, with thatched huts and figures of families farming, cooking and dancing at ceremonies, giving a picture of daily routine as well as ritual life.
