The story

Agastheeswarar Temple stands at Kodiyalur near Peralam in Tiruvarur district. Shiva is worshipped as Agastheeswarar and the goddess as Anandavalli. Around the prakara are shrines to Muruga, Vinayaka, Chandikesvara, the Navagrahas, Bhairava and Lakshmi.

Tradition names Kodiyalur as the birthplace of Shani and Yama, and says both worshipped here, as did Surya with his consorts Sayadevi and Ushadevi. As at Tirunallar and Tirukkollikkadu, Shani has a shrine of his own, on the north side, with Yama's shrine to the south.
