Aam Khas Bagh at Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib district is what remains of a Mughal inn on the imperial road between Delhi and Lahore, divided into an Aam part for the public and a Khas part for royalty. Begun under Akbar to plans by Hafiz Rakhna and rebuilt by Shah Jahan, it also has several buildings credited to Jahangir, and the royal couple stayed here on journeys to and from Lahore.
The complex was known for its Sard Khana, a cooling chamber where water lifted from a well by pulleys ran through channels in the walls to feed fountains. Nearby are the Sheesh Mahal, whose domes still show some glazed tiles, a hammam that heated water brought through terracotta channels, a tank, and Shah Jahan's two-storeyed private residence. Several of these have decayed through lack of upkeep. A Mughal-style garden and an 11-acre orchard of mango, pear and guava survive, and during the Shaheedi Jor Mela a night-time light and sound show on Sirhind's history is staged here.
