The story

Waskura Lake, or Waskura Sar, is a freshwater lake in the village of Waskura, in Jammu and Kashmir, about 13 km from Ganderbal town to the west. It lies at 1,590 metres and is linked by a small channel to the right bank of the Jhelum. Roughly circular, it spreads over about 52.7 hectares, with a depth of up to 6 metres. Springs in and around it supply the water, and an outflow channel carries it away.

The land around the lake is made up of fan-shaped karewa, and apple and willow plantations grow here. Local people use the lake for recreation, fishing, irrigation and growing vegetables. Its plant life is varied, with sacred lotus, white water lily, water chestnut and yellow floating heart among the aquatic species, along with common reed and narrow-leaved cattail.
