The story

Visakha Museum, formally the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Museum, opened in 1991 in a restored Dutch bungalow on the city's beach road that had fallen into ruin. Its collection covers the Kalingandhra, or North Andhra, region from prehistoric to modern times, with artefacts, manuscripts, sculptures, coins, pottery, armour, silk costumes, jewellery, maps and scrapbooks.

One section traces the history of the Indian Navy and the Eastern Naval Command through displays of warships, missiles and artillery. A notable exhibit is a searchlight reflector linked to Vasco da Gama's first voyage, and a quotation from Jawaharlal Nehru on naval strength is also on show.
