The story

The Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple at Karvetinagaram in Andhra Pradesh is a Vaishnavite shrine to Krishna, worshipped here as Venugopala. Tirupati is 58 km away and Puttur 12 km. King Venkataperumal of the Venkataraja dynasty built it, and it is now administered by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

In the sanctum Venugopala stands with his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama on either side, images brought from the Narayanavanam temple. Sub-shrines honour Rama with Sita, Lakshmana and Anjaneya, as well as Parthasarathy, Renuka Parameshwari and Avanakshamma, and the temple tank is known as Skanda Pushkarini. Daily worship follows the Vaikhanasa Agama, and the festival calendar includes Krishna Janmashtami, Utlotsavam, the Brahmotsavams, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, Ugadi and Sankranti. Sarangapani, a Telugu poet of the early 18th century, composed many padams to this deity, and around 200 of them survive in print.
