Tung Fort, also called Kathingad, 'the difficult fort', is a hill fort in Pune district at 1,075 metres. Since the Pawna dam was built, water surrounds it on three sides; boats cross from the dam to the base village of Tungi, and it can also be approached by road from Lonavala to Tungwadi. Built by the Adil Shahis before 1600 and later taken by Shivaji, it is small, able to hold no more than about 200 men, and seems to have served as a watchtower over the Pawna and Mulshi valleys and the road to Pune.
Its sharp cone stands out from far away. The climb follows a narrow path along the mountain edge, about 400 metres up from the Pawna side or 300 metres from Tungwadi. The oval fort has thick walls and many bastions; grassy slopes lead to a ruined temple on top, and rock steps lead down to a water cistern. Lohagad, Visapur, Tikona and Korigad are all visible from the summit.
