The story

Toranmal is a hill station in the Satpura Range in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district, at about 1,150 metres, and the main hill station of the Khandesh region. It is reached by road from Shahada, about 55 km away; the nearest railway station is Nandurbar.

Its Gorakhnath Temple hosts a yatra on Maha Shivaratri that draws thousands of devotees, many of whom walk barefoot for days from across Nandurbar district and from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The surrounding forests form the Toranmal Wildlife Sanctuary, where in 1997 researchers found the forest owlet, a bird then thought to be extinct.
