The story

The Thrikodithanam Mahavishnu Temple, in Kottayam district near Changanassery, is a Kerala-style Vishnu temple praised in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham of the Alvar saints and counted among the 108 Divya Desams. It is one of five shrines in the area that, by legend, the Pandavas each founded after crowning Parikshit and setting out on pilgrimage; this one is credited to Sahadeva. The Travancore Devaswom Board runs it.

The deity, called Amirutha Narayanan, stands facing east, with his consort Karpagavalli. A two-storeyed gateway tower opens into a walled compound with a metal-clad flagstaff, a lamp post, a namaskara mandapa with a pyramidal roof and a circular granite-and-laterite sanctum under a conical tiled roof. A statue in front is said to be a temple servant turned to stone by the god for keeping devotees waiting. A Sravana Deepam festival of lights is held every month.
